“I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that lived first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, lives in you.” — 2 Timothy 1:5 NRSV

United Methodists will join Christians of different traditions to celebrate World Communion Sunday on October 6, 2019. World Communion Sunday began in 1936 as a way to recognize our ecumenical oneness in Christ and to bring Christians together in a spirit of unity and peace.

In The United Methodist Church, congregations will also join together to receive a Special Sunday offering that helps students from around the world reach their full potential through scholarships, training and mentoring. The World Communion Sunday offering is one of six special offerings received throughout the year.

Now is a great time to assemble a planning team and design a ministry plan that reflects the spirit of World Communion Sunday. We have created a toolkit for you to easily prepare and lead worship, to lead ministries with children and youth as well as small-group discussions. Promote World Communion Sunday through social media, videos and newsletter articles with relevant and meaningful messages. Please use and adapt the resources to fit your context and to encourage generous giving on October 6.

Download the free World Communion Sunday Pastor and Leader’s Kit and more for resources to use in your World Communion Sunday observance.

If you don’t already have offering envelopes for World Communion Sunday, please order them today. Call 1-800-991-6011 or order online.

As we prepare for World Communion Sunday this year, invite the Holy Spirit to open your congregation’s heart to the global nature of the church. Please be in prayer with the scholars who receive the education made possible through this special offering. We pray that your congregation will celebrate wholeheartedly in this day of unity.
