Engage with pastors, musicians and worship leaders in planning creative, inspirational worship for Pentecost, using the Revised Common Lectionary Year B. We will explore concepts of celebrating Pentecost not as a day but as a season.
Our seminar leaders—three Elders and one Deacon—are scholars and activists who will help us explore biblical studies, homiletics, worship, and incarnational social action for redemptive justice.
How can we move boldly, creatively into Becoming the Beloved Community together?
How can we preach, celebrate and live Pentecost not as a day but as a season of Extraordinary Worship during Ordinary Time?
Hear and engage the perspectives of:
- The Rev. Dr. Suzanne Wenonah Duchesne: Assistant Professor of Worship and Preaching and Director of Mast Chapel at New Brunswick Theological Seminary, with a PhD in Liturgical Studies and a background in theater and fine arts. Also, a member of conference and jurisdictional Native American Ministries committees and the EPAC Healing the Wounds of Racism CORE Team.
- The Rev. Lydia Munoz: Pastor of Swarthmore UMC a sought-after musician and worship leader, and a D.Min. candidate studying Public Theology, with a passion for justice ministries among marginalized and multicultural communities. Worship and music leader for numerous conferences and events, including General Conference, the UMW Women’s Assembly and the World Council of Churches Assembly. A contributor to the New United Methodist Hymnal Committee and the Abingdon Preacher’s Manual.
- The Rev. David W. Brown: Deacon and Pastor of Wharton-Wesley UMC in Philadelphia, where he has led the church in worship and community engagement efforts. Also a recognized leader in marketing and communications and Diversity Advisor to the Dean of Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communication, where he also serves as an Assistant Professor.
- The Rev. Dr. Deborah Appler: Ph.D Professor of Hebrew Bible at Moravian Theological Seminary, with research and publications focused on biblical themes of justice and healthy relationships, including gender and sexuality, violence against women, elder abuse, and other forms of social injustice. Also a UM Student Advisor at Wesley Theological Seminary.
