….it became the custom of the Church that before the Easter celebration there should be a forty-day season of spiritual preparation.”
There should be! Ash Wednesday on March 5 marks the beginning of that season of preparation for Easter Day, 2025: forty days of public worship, reflection, fasting, and penance practiced by all Christians. Our clergy, in particular, should prepare. Echoing a not long-ago tradition of a Lenten Day Apart for our EPA pastors, our monthly spiritual retreat opportunity in March will expand on Tuesday, March 4 (the day before Ash Wednesday) so our pastors may gather together for fellowship and prayer in attempt to focus themselves and their ministry planning on the holy expression of Lent.
Peter Jamieson (Richmond UMC) will lead us in the practice of various spiritual disciplines throughout the day, supported by Steven Morton (retired Elder) and Lorelei Toombs (Associate Superintendent of the NW region). Stew Warner (Warrington: St Paul’s UMC) will invite us to participate in the special music of the Lenten season. The hospitality team at Phoenixville UMC (Mark Young, pastor) will provide a modest luncheon meal. Dawn Taylor-Storm will preside over the closing service of holy communion at 2:30 pm.
Please register to indicate your commitment to attendance.
If you’re available on March 4, please come. If you’re too busy on March 4, you NEED to come.
